Job Description

Are you a recent graduate with a passion for public policy and a drive to make a tangible impact? Minnesota Power is seeking a motivated and analytical Policy Associate to join our dynamic Public Policy and Government Affairs team. This entry-level position is ideal for individuals eager to develop a robust career in policy analysis, stakeholder engagement, and regulatory affairs within the energy sector. You will contribute to our mission by researching policy issues, supporting advocacy efforts, and engaging with internal and external stakeholders to advance our strategic objectives. Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive research and analysis on energy policy, regulatory developments, and legislative proposals at local, state, and federal levels.
  • Assist in drafting policy briefs, position papers, reports, and presentations for internal and external audiences.
  • Monitor legislative sessions, regulatory hearings, and public meetings relevant to Minnesota Power's interests.
  • Support the development and implementation of advocacy strategies to influence policy outcomes.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including legal, environmental, and operational departments, to understand policy implications.
  • Facilitate communication and engagement with government officials, industry associations, and community stakeholders.
  • Organize and prepare materials for stakeholder meetings, presentations, and events.
  • Contribute to special projects and initiatives as assigned by senior policy staff.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Political Science, Public Policy, Economics, Environmental Studies, Law, or a related field.
  • Strong research and analytical capabilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to synthesize complex information and present it clearly.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Demonstrated interest in public policy, energy, or utility regulation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous internship or volunteer experience in a policy, government, or advocacy setting.
  • Familiarity with Minnesota state government and legislative processes.
  • Understanding of the energy industry and related policy challenges.
  • Experience with data analysis and presentation tools.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
