Job Description
Join Community Memorial Health System as a Board Certified Music Therapist, where you will play a crucial role in enhancing the well-being of our patients across various departments. This hospital-based position offers the opportunity to provide therapeutic music interventions to patients of all ages, helping them to cope with illness, manage pain, express emotions, and achieve therapeutic goals. You will work within an interdisciplinary team, contributing to comprehensive patient care plans and fostering a healing environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess patient needs and develop individualized music therapy treatment plans based on clinical assessment and medical goals.
- Implement a variety of music therapy interventions, including receptive and active music listening, improvisation, songwriting, singing, and instrumental playing.
- Document patient progress, responses to therapy, and adjust treatment plans as necessary in electronic health records.
- Collaborate effectively with physicians, nurses, social workers, and other healthcare professionals to integrate music therapy into holistic patient care.
- Educate patients, families, and staff about the benefits and applications of music therapy.
- Maintain professional competence through continuing education and adherence to professional ethics and standards of practice.
- Participate in departmental meetings, case conferences, and program development initiatives.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Music Therapy from an AMTA-approved program
- Current Board Certification in Music Therapy (MT-BC) issued by the Certification Board for Music Therapists (CBMT)
- Minimum of 2 years of post-certification clinical experience in a hospital or healthcare setting
- Demonstrated ability to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate music therapy interventions
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team
- Proficiency in electronic health record (EHR) systems
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Music Therapy
- Experience working with diverse patient populations (e.g., pediatric, geriatric, oncology, palliative care)
- Advanced clinical training or specialization in areas such as neurologic music therapy or trauma-informed care
- Bilingual skills (especially Spanish) are a plus
