Job Description

The CIUSSS de l’Estrie – CHUS is seeking dedicated individuals to join our team as Trainee Social Worker Assistants through a government-funded training program. This is a unique opportunity for compassionate and motivated individuals with little to no prior experience in social work to kickstart a rewarding career. You will receive comprehensive, hands-on training and mentorship, preparing you to provide essential support to social workers and directly assist individuals and families in need across the Sherbrooke region. This program is designed to equip you with the fundamental skills and knowledge required to thrive in the social services sector, contributing to the well-being and stability of our community. This is an on-site position based in Sherbrooke, where you will be an integral part of our local team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist qualified social workers in assessing client needs and developing support plans.
  • Provide administrative support, including maintaining accurate client records and scheduling appointments.
  • Facilitate communication between clients, families, and various service providers.
  • Help clients access appropriate community resources and support networks.
  • Participate in supervised home visits and community outreach activities.
  • Support the implementation of care plans and monitor client progress.
  • Adhere to strict ethical guidelines and maintain client confidentiality at all times.
  • Actively participate in all training sessions and professional development activities as required by the program.

Required Skills

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Strong organizational abilities and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated empathy, patience, and a non-judgmental attitude towards all clients.
  • Ability to work effectively and collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Basic computer proficiency, including experience with word processing and email applications.
  • Demonstrated commitment to helping others and making a positive community impact.
  • Eligibility for government-funded training programs (specific criteria will be discussed during the application process).

Preferred Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Prior volunteer experience in a community service, healthcare, or helping role.
  • Bilingualism (French and English) is considered a significant asset, given the diverse linguistic landscape of the region.
  • Valid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle for potential community visits.
