Job Description
We are seeking a talented and motivated Cartographer / GIS Specialist to join our dynamic team in Geelong, Victoria. This is an exciting opportunity for an individual with a passion for geospatial data and mapping to contribute to a variety of infrastructure and environmental projects. This position is open to candidates requiring sponsorship, demonstrating our commitment to attracting global talent. You will be instrumental in the creation, maintenance, and analysis of spatial data, producing high-quality maps and geospatial products that support critical decision-making across our diverse client portfolio. You will work within a collaborative environment, utilizing cutting-edge GIS technologies and methodologies to deliver innovative solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, create, and maintain geospatial databases and mapping products.
- Perform complex spatial analysis to support project requirements and inform strategic decisions.
- Develop and implement robust data quality assurance and quality control procedures.
- Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams including engineers, environmental scientists, and planners to integrate geospatial solutions.
- Produce professional-quality maps, reports, and presentations for both internal and external stakeholders.
- Utilize advanced GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS Pro, QGIS) for data management, analysis, and visualization.
- Stay abreast of emerging GIS technologies, software, and best practices.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Cartography, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Geomatics, or a related field.
- Minimum of 2 years of professional experience in a Cartographer or GIS Specialist role.
- Proficiency with ESRI ArcGIS products (ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, ArcMap).
- Strong understanding of cartographic principles, map projections, and coordinate systems.
- Demonstrated ability to manage, process, and analyze complex spatial datasets.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team.
- Experience with data quality control and assurance methodologies.
Preferred Qualifications
- Post-graduate qualification in GIS or a related discipline.
- Experience with other GIS software such as QGIS, Google Earth Engine, or similar.
- Familiarity with scripting languages (e.g., Python) for GIS automation.
- Experience with remote sensing data and techniques.
- Knowledge of Australian spatial data standards and government agencies.
- Previous experience in an engineering consulting environment.
