Job Description
Are you passionate about pets and eager to start a rewarding career in pet grooming? PetSmart in Kelowna is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Pet Grooming Offsider to join our vibrant team. This entry-level position offers comprehensive paid training, providing you with the skills and knowledge to become a professional pet groomer. As an Offsider, you will work alongside experienced groomers, assisting with various tasks and learning the fundamentals of pet care and grooming. This is an incredible opportunity to turn your love for animals into a fulfilling profession with a clear path for advancement.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist professional pet groomers with bathing, drying, and brushing pets.
- Learn proper animal handling techniques, safety protocols, and pet behaviour interpretation.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the grooming salon, including sanitizing tools and work areas.
- Provide basic pet care and comfort during the grooming process.
- Support the grooming team with customer service, checking pets in and out.
- Observe and actively participate in learning various grooming techniques for different breeds.
- Follow all company policies and procedures related to animal welfare and safety.
Required Skills
- Genuine love for animals and a passion for their well-being.
- Strong willingness to learn and accept feedback.
- Ability to communicate effectively with team members and pet parents.
- Physical stamina to stand for long periods, lift pets (up to 50 lbs), and perform repetitive tasks.
- Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic.
- Comfortable working with various breeds and temperaments of dogs and cats.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience working with animals (e.g., vet assistant, shelter volunteer, pet sitting).
- Basic knowledge of different dog breeds and their grooming needs.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
