Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Refinery Technician to join our operations team near the Houston Ship Channel. The successful candidate will be responsible for monitoring, operating, and maintaining various refinery units to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable production. This role requires a strong commitment to safety, adherence to standard operating procedures, and the ability to troubleshoot and respond to operational issues promptly. This is an immediate hire position for individuals ready to contribute to a critical industrial operation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate refinery process units safely and efficiently, including startups, shutdowns, and routine adjustments.
  • Monitor control panels, gauges, and instruments to ensure process parameters are within specified limits.
  • Conduct routine equipment inspections, perform minor maintenance, and troubleshoot operational problems.
  • Collect samples, perform basic laboratory tests, and record data accurately.
  • Respond promptly to alarms, emergencies, and process upsets, taking appropriate corrective actions.
  • Communicate effectively with team members, supervisors, and other departments regarding operational status and issues.
  • Adhere to all safety regulations, environmental policies, and company procedures.
  • Participate in safety meetings, training sessions, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Prepare equipment for maintenance work, including lock-out/tag-out procedures.

Required Skills

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a refinery, petrochemical plant, or similar heavy industrial environment.
  • Strong understanding of process operations, safety protocols, and environmental regulations.
  • Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, PFDs, and technical manuals.
  • Proficiency in basic computer applications and control systems (DCS experience preferred).
  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented, fast-paced environment.
  • Physical ability to climb stairs, lift up to 50 lbs, and work in various weather conditions.
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate's degree or vocational technical certification in Process Technology, Chemical Engineering Technology, or a related field.
  • Experience with SAP or similar maintenance management systems.
  • Familiarity with PSM (Process Safety Management) standards.
  • Previous experience operating a variety of refinery units (e.g., Crude, Coker, FCC, Hydrotreater).
