Job Description
As a Polymer Chemist, you will be instrumental in the design, synthesis, and characterization of novel polymeric materials for a variety of applications within our advanced R&D projects. You will work within an interdisciplinary team to solve complex material science challenges, optimize existing polymer systems, and develop new methodologies for material synthesis and characterization. This role requires a strong theoretical background in polymer chemistry, practical expertise in polymer synthesis techniques, and a passion for innovation in material science.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and synthesize novel polymers with targeted properties for specific applications in analytical instrumentation and consumables.
- Characterize polymeric materials using a range of analytical techniques (e.g., GPC, NMR, FTIR, DSC, TGA, rheology, mechanical testing).
- Optimize reaction conditions and purification protocols for polymer synthesis to achieve desired material specifications.
- Conduct structure-property relationship studies to guide material design and development.
- Collaborate effectively with engineers, biochemists, and other scientists in interdisciplinary project teams.
- Maintain detailed records of experimental procedures, results, and analyses.
- Contribute to scientific publications, patent applications, and technical presentations.
- Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and best laboratory practices.
Required Skills
- Strong foundational knowledge in polymer chemistry, organic chemistry, and material science.
- Proficiency in various polymer synthesis techniques (e.g., free-radical, controlled radical, condensation, ring-opening polymerization).
- Expertise in polymer characterization methods (e.g., GPC, NMR, FTIR, mass spectrometry, thermal analysis, mechanical testing).
- Demonstrated ability to design experiments, troubleshoot, and analyze complex data.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and a strong aptitude for scientific inquiry.
- Proficiency in relevant software for data analysis and chemical drawing.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced R&D environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Ph.D. in Polymer Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience with polymer processing techniques (e.g., extrusion, injection molding) or surface modification.
- Familiarity with materials for microfluidic devices, separation science, or optical applications.
- Track record of innovation, as evidenced by patents, publications, or product development.
- Experience in an industrial R&D setting, particularly in the analytical instrumentation or medical device industries.
Perks & Benefits
- Competitive salary and performance-based bonuses.
- Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance.
- Generous paid time off and flexible work arrangements.
- 401(k) retirement plan with company match.
- Tuition reimbursement and professional development opportunities.
- On-site fitness center and wellness programs.
- Employee stock purchase program.
- Collaborative and innovative work environment.
