Job Description
Join the FedEx Express team as an Airport Cargo Pallet Wrapper in our bustling O’Hare facility. In this essential role, you will be responsible for securely preparing outbound cargo for air transport, ensuring all freight is properly netted, wrapped, and secured onto pallets according to strict safety and operational guidelines. This is a fast-paced, hands-on environment that requires attention to detail, physical stamina, and a strong commitment to teamwork and safety.
Key Responsibilities
- Accurately net and wrap various types of freight onto airline pallets and Unit Load Devices (ULDs).
- Utilize power and hand tools, including strapping machines and tensioners, to secure cargo, ensuring stability and safety for air travel.
- Inspect cargo for damage, labeling discrepancies, or other issues prior to wrapping and report any findings to supervisors.
- Operate pallet jacks or other material handling equipment as needed to move cargo within the terminal.
- Adhere to all FedEx safety procedures, regulations, and operational standards, including proper lifting techniques and equipment operation.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment within the cargo terminal.
- Collaborate effectively with team members and supervisors to meet daily operational goals and tight deadlines.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support overall cargo operations and customer satisfaction.
Required Skills
- Ability to lift, push, pull, and carry freight weighing up to 70 lbs (32 kg) regularly.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow precise written and verbal instructions.
- Basic understanding of warehouse or airport operational procedures.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment, often under varying environmental conditions.
- Reliable attendance and punctuality are essential.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented setting.
- Basic literacy skills (reading labels, work instructions, safety manuals).
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a warehouse, logistics, or airport cargo handling environment.
- Experience with material handling equipment such as manual or electric pallet jacks, or forklifts.
- Knowledge of ULD building and netting procedures according to IATA standards.
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
