Job Description
The Florida State University College of Music seeks a dedicated and skilled Part-time Woodwind Instructor, specializing in Flute and Clarinet, to join our esteemed faculty. This role involves providing high-quality instrumental instruction to students of varying skill levels within our community outreach and preparatory programs, or as part of our general music education offerings. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of woodwind pedagogy, a passion for teaching, and the ability to inspire and motivate students to achieve their musical potential.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide expert one-on-one and/or group instruction in Flute and Clarinet to students of diverse ages and abilities.
- Develop and implement engaging lesson plans tailored to individual student needs and goals, aligning with the College of Music's standards.
- Assess student progress regularly, provide constructive feedback, and adapt teaching methods accordingly to ensure effective learning.
- Prepare students for recitals, auditions, competitions, and examinations, fostering confidence and performance readiness.
- Maintain a professional, positive, and inclusive learning environment that encourages artistic growth and discipline.
- Collaborate with other faculty members and department staff as needed on curriculum development, student progress, and program enhancements.
- Participate in departmental meetings and events when required, contributing to the academic and artistic community.
- Adhere to all university policies and procedures, upholding the highest standards of conduct and professionalism.
Required Skills
- Proficiency in Flute and Clarinet performance and pedagogy, demonstrated through academic achievement or professional experience.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, essential for effective student engagement and collegial interaction.
- Ability to teach students of various age groups and skill levels, adapting instruction to meet diverse learning styles.
- Demonstrated experience in music instruction, preferably with a track record of student success.
- Familiarity with diverse musical styles and repertoire for woodwind instruments, enriching the instructional content.
- Excellent organizational and time management abilities, crucial for managing student schedules and lesson planning.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Music Performance, Music Education, or a related field from an accredited institution.
- Previous experience teaching in a university, conservatory, or reputable music academy setting.
- Performance experience as a professional musician, bringing real-world insights to students.
- Knowledge of other woodwind instruments (e.g., saxophone, oboe, bassoon) is a plus, expanding instructional versatility.
