Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Stable Hand to join our team at Aintree Racecourse. This role is perfect for individuals with a genuine passion for horses and a strong work ethic. You will be instrumental in the daily care and maintenance of our horses, ensuring their health, comfort, and readiness for training and events. Early starts are a fundamental part of this role, requiring commitment and reliability. While prior experience is beneficial, a positive attitude, willingness to learn, and a love for horses are paramount.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform daily mucking out of stables, ensuring a clean and hygienic environment for horses.
  • Prepare and distribute feed according to specific dietary plans and schedules.
  • Groom horses, including brushing, washing, and preparing them for exercise or events.
  • Assist with turnout and bringing in horses from paddocks.
  • Monitor horses for any signs of illness, injury, or distress and report findings to senior staff.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of tack rooms, feed rooms, and other stable areas.
  • Assist with basic first aid for horses under supervision.
  • Support trainers and riders during exercise and preparation for races.
  • Perform general yard duties as required to ensure smooth operation of the stables.

Required Skills

  • Strong passion for horses and animal welfare.
  • Ability to work early mornings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Excellent reliability and punctuality.
  • Physical fitness and ability to perform manual labor in all weather conditions.
  • Ability to follow instructions meticulously.
  • A keen eye for detail and observation skills.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience working with horses in a stable or equestrian environment.
  • Knowledge of basic horse care and stable management practices.
  • NVQ Level 1 or 2 in Horse Care, or equivalent qualification.
  • First aid certification for animals.
  • Full UK driving license.
