Job Description
Pace Analytical Services in Rochester, MN, is seeking a dedicated Analytical Chemist with a focus on Environmental Water & Air Quality. In this crucial role, you will be instrumental in performing complex chemical analyses on environmental samples to assess water and air quality, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and supporting environmental remediation efforts. This position requires a strong understanding of analytical instrumentation, method development, and quality assurance principles in an environmental laboratory setting. Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine and non-routine chemical analyses on water and air samples using various analytical techniques (e.g., GC/MS, LC/MS, ICP-MS, IC, UV-Vis).
- Operate, calibrate, maintain, and troubleshoot complex laboratory instrumentation.
- Develop, validate, and optimize analytical methods for the detection and quantification of environmental contaminants.
- Interpret and report analytical data accurately and in accordance with established protocols, regulatory requirements, and client specifications.
- Ensure strict compliance with Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) procedures, including sample preparation, data review, and instrument calibration verification.
- Maintain accurate and detailed laboratory records and documentation, adhering to all data integrity standards.
- Participate in inter-laboratory proficiency testing programs to maintain laboratory accreditation and quality standards.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of laboratory operations, safety protocols, and waste management practices.
- Communicate effectively with project managers, clients, and team members regarding analytical results, project timelines, and technical challenges.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Environmental Science, or a closely related scientific field.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in an environmental analytical laboratory setting.
- Strong theoretical and practical knowledge of analytical chemistry principles and techniques.
- Proficiency in operating and troubleshooting analytical instruments such as GC/MS, LC/MS, ICP-MS, and IC.
- Demonstrated experience with environmental sampling and sample preparation techniques for water and air matrices.
- Familiarity with environmental regulations (e.g., EPA methods, state-specific guidelines) and quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) guidelines.
- Excellent data analysis, interpretation, and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks, and prioritize effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong organizational abilities and meticulous record-keeping skills.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills for technical reporting and team collaboration.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Chemistry, Environmental Science, or a related field.
- Experience with LIMS (Laboratory Information Management System) software.
- Knowledge of method development and validation in an accredited laboratory environment (e.g., NELAP, ISO 17025).
- Certifications related to environmental analysis or laboratory safety (e.g., HAZWOPER).
