Job Description

Join the YMCA of Central Ohio as a Weekend Camp Counselor with a focus on Youth Leadership in our German Village programs. This part-time role is perfect for passionate individuals committed to making a positive impact on young lives. You will be instrumental in guiding campers through engaging activities, fostering teamwork, and developing their leadership potential during weekend sessions. We are looking for energetic, responsible, and inspiring individuals who can ensure a safe, fun, and educational experience for all participants.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and lead a variety of engaging recreational activities, games, and team-building exercises.
  • Promote a safe, inclusive, and positive camp environment for all participants.
  • Mentor and guide campers (ages 8-14) in developing leadership skills, problem-solving, and communication.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of all campers, adhering to YMCA policies and procedures.
  • Facilitate group discussions and reflections on leadership themes.
  • Assist with camp setup and cleanup, including organizing materials and maintaining facilities.
  • Communicate effectively with campers, parents, and fellow staff members.
  • Be a positive role model for youth, demonstrating YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.

Required Skills

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to lead and engage groups of children and young teens
  • Enthusiasm for outdoor activities and youth development
  • Patience, adaptability, and problem-solving abilities
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire)
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience working with youth in a camp, educational, or recreational setting
  • Background in leadership development, education, or recreation management
  • Knowledge of age-appropriate activities and curriculum development
  • Certifications in specialized activities (e.g., lifeguard, wilderness first aid)
