Job Description
We are seeking highly motivated and entrepreneurial Sprinter Van Owner Operators to partner with FedEx Ground for expedited freight services. As an independent contractor, you will leverage your own Sprinter Van to provide timely and reliable transportation of critical freight across designated routes. This is an excellent opportunity for dedicated individuals who thrive on independence, possess strong time management skills, and are committed to safety and customer satisfaction in a fast-paced environment. You will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of your vehicle and adherence to all Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and company standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate a Sprinter Van for expedited freight delivery, ensuring timely pickup and delivery.
- Maintain accurate logs and records, including Hours of Service (HOS) and vehicle maintenance.
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the vehicle.
- Secure freight properly to prevent damage during transit.
- Adhere to all federal, state, and local traffic laws and regulations.
- Manage fuel efficiency, route planning, and basic business operations as an independent contractor.
- Communicate effectively with dispatch and customers as needed.
- Represent FedEx Ground professionally at all times.
Required Skills
- Valid Class C (or equivalent) driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Minimum 2 years of commercial driving experience.
- Ownership of a well-maintained, reliable Sprinter Van (or similar cargo van suitable for expedited freight).
- Ability to lift and move packages up to 75 lbs.
- Strong time management and organizational skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Basic understanding of business operations and financial management for independent contractors.
- Familiarity with DOT regulations and safety protocols.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in expedited freight or last-mile delivery.
- Existing DOT number and operating authority (MC number).
- Experience with freight securement techniques for various cargo types.
- Geographic knowledge of the Western US region.
- Business registration and commercial insurance in place.
