Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and physically capable Maritime Dock Worker with a focus on Port Logistics to join our team. This role is crucial to the efficient movement of cargo through our terminal. The Maritime Dock Worker will be responsible for a variety of tasks related to loading, unloading, and securing cargo on vessels and in the terminal yard, ensuring adherence to strict safety protocols and operational efficiency. While our administrative and hiring functions may operate out of Pasadena, the primary work location for this role will be at our bustling terminal facility in the Port of Los Angeles, just a short commute away.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate various types of port equipment, potentially including forklifts, cranes, or other heavy machinery (training provided where necessary).
- Load and unload cargo from ships, trucks, and railcars, ensuring proper handling and placement.
- Secure cargo using appropriate rigging and lashing techniques.
- Inspect cargo for damage and report any discrepancies.
- Monitor vessel and yard operations to maintain a safe and efficient work environment.
- Participate in safety briefings and adhere to all company and port safety regulations.
- Communicate effectively with team members, supervisors, and other port personnel.
- Perform general labor tasks as required to support port operations.
Required Skills
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting heavy objects, standing for long periods, and working outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Strong understanding and commitment to safety procedures and regulations.
- Excellent hand-eye coordination and spatial awareness.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
- Basic communication skills to understand instructions and report issues.
- Must be able to pass a background check and drug screening.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a port, warehouse, or heavy industrial environment.
- Experience operating forklifts, gantry cranes, or other heavy machinery.
- Valid Class C driver's license with a clean driving record.
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
- Familiarity with maritime operations and logistics terminology.
