Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) Nurse to join our dynamic team in Arlington Heights. This is an immediate opening for a dedicated professional ready to provide critical care to patients recovering from anesthesia, ensuring their safe and comfortable transition from the operating room. The PACU Nurse is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care in the immediate postoperative period, managing pain, monitoring vital signs, and addressing potential complications. Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct nursing care to post-operative patients recovering from general, regional, and local anesthesia.
- Monitor patient vital signs, neurological status, pain levels, and surgical site assessments.
- Administer medications, including analgesics, antiemetics, and other post-operative drugs, safely and effectively.
- Manage airways, oxygen therapy, and ventilator support as needed.
- Assess and manage post-operative pain using various modalities.
- Communicate effectively with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare team members regarding patient status.
- Educate patients and families on post-operative care instructions.
- Maintain accurate and detailed patient records.
- Adhere to all hospital policies, procedures, and national patient safety standards.
Required Skills
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in Illinois.
- Minimum of 2 years of recent experience in PACU, ICU, or ER.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
- Excellent critical thinking and assessment skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-stress environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certified Post Anesthesia Nurse (CPAN) or Certified Ambulatory Perianesthesia Nurse (CAPA) certification.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
- Experience with electronic health record (EHR) systems.
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
