Job Description

Suncor Energy is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Property Maintenance Assistant (Handyman/Mate) to join our Fort McMurray team. This entry-level position is ideal for individuals eager to start a career in property maintenance and facilities management. You will work under the guidance of experienced technicians, learning essential skills in plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and general repairs. This role is crucial for ensuring the comfort, safety, and functionality of our diverse property portfolio in the region. Key Responsibilities

  • Assist senior maintenance staff with routine repairs and preventative maintenance tasks.
  • Perform basic plumbing tasks, such as fixing leaks, unclogging drains, and repairing fixtures.
  • Conduct minor electrical repairs, including changing light bulbs, outlets, and switches.
  • Undertake general carpentry work, such as repairing walls, doors, and furniture.
  • Assist with painting, drywall repair, and patching.
  • Perform routine inspections of properties to identify maintenance needs.
  • Respond to maintenance requests in a timely and professional manner.
  • Ensure all work areas are kept clean, safe, and organized.
  • Learn and adhere to all safety protocols and company policies.
  • Support groundskeeping and exterior maintenance as needed.

Required Skills

  • Basic understanding of tools and their safe use.
  • Strong desire to learn and develop new practical skills.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work effectively in a team.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Physical ability to perform manual tasks, lift moderate weights, and stand for extended periods.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.

Preferred Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Some prior experience in a hands-on role, even if informal (e.g., home repairs, construction, volunteer work).
  • Basic knowledge of general building systems (HVAC, electrical, plumbing).
  • First Aid and CPR certification.
