Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Hospital Admitting Nurse to join our dynamic team. This role is a critical administrative and clinical mix, responsible for the efficient and compassionate admission of patients into our facility. The ideal candidate will combine strong organizational skills with clinical expertise to ensure a smooth and supportive onboarding experience for every patient. You will be the first clinical point of contact for many patients, performing initial assessments, gathering comprehensive medical history, and ensuring all necessary documentation is completed accurately and promptly. This position requires excellent communication skills, a calm demeanor under pressure, and a commitment to patient safety and satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive initial nursing assessments upon patient admission, including vital signs, medical history, and current symptoms.
- Accurately document all patient information, medical history, and assessment findings in the electronic medical record (EMR) system.
- Review physician orders for completeness and appropriateness, clarifying as needed.
- Provide clear and compassionate communication to patients and their families regarding the admission process, hospital policies, and what to expect during their stay.
- Collaborate with physicians, charge nurses, and other healthcare team members to facilitate a seamless patient transition.
- Educate patients on their rights, hospital procedures, and provide comfort and reassurance.
- Ensure compliance with all hospital policies, regulatory standards, and patient privacy (HIPAA) regulations.
- Assist with bed assignments and coordination with patient placement services.
- Identify and escalate any immediate patient safety concerns or urgent clinical needs.
Required Skills
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Ohio.
- Minimum of 1 year of clinical nursing experience.
- Proficiency in electronic medical record (EMR) systems.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
- Demonstrated empathy, compassion, and patient-centered care approach.
- Basic life support (BLS) certification.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree.
- Previous experience in hospital admissions, emergency department, or urgent care settings.
- Experience with Epic EMR system.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
