Job Description

Are you passionate about animals and eager to start a career in veterinary care? St. James Veterinary Group is looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Vet Clinic Helper to join our team in Swansea. This is an entry-level position perfect for individuals with no prior experience but a strong desire to learn and contribute to the well-being of animals. We provide comprehensive animal handling training, ensuring you gain the necessary skills to support our veterinary professionals effectively. Key Responsibilities

  • Assist veterinarians and veterinary nurses with animal restraint during examinations and procedures.
  • Clean and disinfect examination rooms, kennels, and surgical areas to maintain high hygiene standards.
  • Feed, water, and exercise hospitalized animals according to veterinary instructions.
  • Monitor animal behavior and report any changes or concerns to veterinary staff.
  • Launder blankets, towels, and other clinic linens.
  • Restock supplies in examination rooms and treatment areas.
  • Assist with basic administrative tasks such as filing or answering phones.
  • Ensure the comfort and well-being of all animals under our care.
  • Participate in ongoing training and development programs.

Required Skills

  • Strong passion for animal welfare and a desire to learn.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to follow instructions meticulously.
  • Reliable, punctual, and a strong work ethic.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Physical stamina to handle animals and perform cleaning duties.
  • Empathy and a calm demeanor around animals, especially those who are stressed or anxious.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience volunteering at an animal shelter or rescue organization.
  • Basic knowledge of animal first aid.
  • GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths.
  • Driving license (due to potential need for inter-clinic travel).
