Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Legislative Tracking Clerk with a strong Political Science focus to join our team in Wilmington. This role is crucial for monitoring, analyzing, and reporting on legislative and regulatory developments impacting our clients across various industries. The successful candidate will play a vital role in ensuring our legal teams and clients are up-to-date on relevant policy changes, contributing to informed decision-making and strategic advice.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor federal and state legislative and regulatory activities, including bill tracking, committee hearings, and agency rulemakings.
  • Summarize complex legislative documents, policy proposals, and regulatory changes into concise, actionable reports for legal teams and clients.
  • Conduct in-depth research on political and policy issues, legal precedents, and industry-specific regulations using various online databases and resources.
  • Maintain and update legislative tracking databases and systems with accurate and timely information.
  • Assist in the preparation of presentations, memos, and other communications related to legislative and policy developments.
  • Collaborate with attorneys and other professionals to identify key legislative priorities and potential impacts on client interests.
  • Perform administrative tasks as needed to support the government affairs and policy teams.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Political Science, Public Policy, Government, or a closely related field.
  • Exceptional research and analytical skills with a proven ability to synthesize complex information.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and experience with legislative tracking software or databases.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced legal environment.
  • Demonstrated interest in legislative processes, public policy, and current affairs.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior internship experience in a legislative office, government agency, law firm, think tank, or advocacy group.
  • Familiarity with LexisNexis, Westlaw, Bloomberg Government, or other legal/legislative research platforms.
  • Understanding of state and federal legislative and regulatory processes.
  • Experience in data entry and database management.
