Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Accompanist to join our dynamic Dance and Dramatic Art programs. This vital role involves providing expert musical accompaniment for a variety of dance classes, rehearsals, and theater productions, including ballet, modern, jazz, tap, and theatrical scenes. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional sight-reading abilities, strong improvisational skills, and a deep understanding of diverse musical styles pertinent to dance and theater. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to a thriving artistic environment and collaborate with talented faculty and students.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide live musical accompaniment for dance technique classes (e.g., ballet, modern, jazz, tap) at various levels.
- Accompany rehearsals for student and faculty dance performances and theatrical productions.
- Demonstrate versatility in musical styles, adapting to classical, contemporary, jazz, world music, and theatrical scores.
- Possess strong improvisational skills to respond spontaneously to choreographic and directorial needs.
- Maintain an extensive repertoire of appropriate music for both dance and theater.
- Collaborate effectively with instructors, choreographers, directors, and performers.
- Attend required meetings and contribute to a positive and collaborative artistic atmosphere.
- Maintain punctuality and professionalism in all scheduled sessions.
Required Skills
- Exceptional piano proficiency and musicality.
- Advanced sight-reading abilities.
- Proven experience as an accompanist for dance and/or theater.
- Strong improvisational skills in various musical genres.
- Comprehensive understanding of music theory and harmony.
- Ability to adapt quickly to diverse styles and tempos.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Reliability and punctuality.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Music, Performance, or a related field.
- Experience with other instruments (e.g., percussion, guitar) is a plus.
