Job Description

Are you a passionate and aspiring engineer with a keen interest in robotics, automation, and entertainment technology? Siemens is offering an exciting internship opportunity for an Animatronic Control Systems Intern to join our innovative engineering team in Kilmarnock. This role is perfect for students or recent graduates looking to gain hands-on experience with cutting-edge control systems used in animatronics and complex automated displays. You will work alongside experienced engineers, contributing to real-world projects from concept to implementation, and learning about the intricacies of motion control, sensor integration, and software development for dynamic systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the design, development, and testing of control algorithms for animatronic figures and automated systems.
  • Support the integration of sensors, actuators, and motor control units into animatronic prototypes.
  • Contribute to the programming and debugging of PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) or microcontroller-based control systems.
  • Participate in design reviews and technical discussions, offering fresh perspectives and ideas.
  • Document technical specifications, test procedures, and system configurations.
  • Help troubleshoot and resolve technical issues during the development and testing phases.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including mechanical and electrical engineers, to ensure seamless system operation.
  • Research new technologies and methodologies to enhance animatronic performance and reliability.

Required Skills

  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Robotics, Mechatronics, or a related field.
  • Basic understanding of control systems theory and automation principles.
  • Proficiency in at least one programming language (e.g., Python, C++, Java).
  • Familiarity with microcontroller platforms (e.g., Arduino, Raspberry Pi) or PLCs.
  • Knowledge of basic electronics and circuit design.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Eagerness to learn and adapt to new technologies.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD) for basic system layouts.
  • Prior experience with robotic systems or personal projects involving automation.
  • Understanding of real-time operating systems (RTOS).
  • Familiarity with simulation tools (e.g., MATLAB/Simulink).
  • Coursework or projects in digital signal processing or motor control.
