Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Chemical Process Engineer (Chemist) with a strong focus on plant operations to join our dynamic team in Saint Paul, MN. This role is crucial for optimizing existing chemical processes, scaling up new products, and ensuring efficient, safe, and sustainable manufacturing operations within our plant environment. The successful candidate will leverage their expertise in chemical engineering principles and applied chemistry to drive continuous improvement, troubleshoot process issues, and contribute to the development of next-generation manufacturing solutions. Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and optimize chemical manufacturing processes to improve efficiency, yield, and product quality.
  • Conduct thorough process analysis, including material and energy balances, fluid dynamics, and heat transfer calculations.
  • Troubleshoot complex process issues, identify root causes, and implement effective corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with R&D, production, and quality teams to scale up new products from pilot to full production.
  • Ensure all process designs and modifications comply with safety, environmental, and quality standards.
  • Develop and implement process control strategies and recommend automation improvements.
  • Manage process documentation, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and training materials.
  • Participate in capital projects, from conceptual design to commissioning and startup.
  • Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and drive continuous improvement initiatives using methodologies like Lean Six Sigma.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to manufacturing operators and technicians.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or Chemistry.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in chemical process engineering or manufacturing operations.
  • Strong understanding of fundamental chemical engineering principles (thermodynamics, kinetics, fluid mechanics, heat and mass transfer).
  • Proven experience with process optimization, design, and troubleshooting in a plant setting.
  • Proficiency in process simulation software (e.g., Aspen HYSYS, SuperPro Designer) and data analysis tools.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a cross-functional team environment.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations and best practices in chemical manufacturing.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Chemical Engineering or related field.
  • Experience with polymer chemistry or advanced materials processing.
  • Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies.
  • Project management experience, particularly with capital projects.
  • Experience with process control systems (DCS, PLC) and instrumentation.
