Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and talented Church Organist / Music Director to lead our music ministry during weekend services and special events. This stable, part-time role is ideal for a passionate musician who can inspire congregational singing, lead vocal and instrumental ensembles, and provide a high level of musical artistry on the organ and piano. The successful candidate will collaborate with the pastoral staff to enhance our worship experience and foster a vibrant musical community.
Key Responsibilities
- Play the organ and/or piano for all weekend worship services and special services (e.g., Christmas Eve, Easter).
- Direct and rehearse the adult choir and potentially other vocal or instrumental ensembles.
- Select appropriate hymns, anthems, and service music in consultation with the Senior Pastor.
- Recruit, encourage, and train volunteer musicians.
- Maintain the church's musical instruments in good working order, arranging for tuning and repairs as needed.
- Manage the music budget and resources.
- Provide musical accompaniment for weddings and funerals as requested and available.
- Collaborate with the worship planning team to integrate music seamlessly into the overall worship experience.
Required Skills
- Exceptional proficiency in organ and piano performance.
- Strong conducting skills for choral and instrumental ensembles.
- Comprehensive knowledge of sacred music repertoire across various styles and traditions.
- Excellent sight-reading abilities.
- Ability to inspire and lead congregational singing.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Understanding of Methodist liturgy and theology (or willingness to learn).
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Music, Sacred Music, or a related field.
- Experience directing both adult and youth choirs.
- Familiarity with various music software and technology for worship.
- Experience with handbell choirs or other instrumental groups.
- Previous experience as a Church Organist or Music Director in a Protestant tradition.
