Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Community Outreach Aide with a strong social focus to join our local government team in Missoula. This entry-level position is perfect for individuals passionate about connecting with residents, promoting social services, and contributing to community betterment. The Community Outreach Aide will support various city initiatives aimed at improving social equity, accessibility, and resident engagement. You will play a crucial role in bridging the gap between city services and the community, ensuring information reaches those who need it most.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the planning, coordination, and execution of community outreach events and programs.
  • Disseminate information about city-funded social services, public health initiatives, and community resources to residents through various channels.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for community inquiries, providing accurate information or directing residents to appropriate departments/resources.
  • Help develop and maintain a comprehensive database of community organizations, resources, and contact information.
  • Collect feedback from community members to inform program development and identify areas for improvement.
  • Provide administrative support to senior outreach staff, including scheduling, preparing materials, and managing correspondence.
  • Collaborate with other city departments, non-profit organizations, and community leaders to enhance program reach and effectiveness.
  • Attend community meetings and events, often outside regular business hours, to represent the city and gather input.
  • Prepare reports and summaries of outreach activities and community engagement efforts.

Required Skills

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport with diverse community members.
  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and professionalism.
  • A valid Montana driver's license and reliable transportation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • An Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Public Administration, Communications, or a related field.
  • Prior experience in community engagement, public service, or volunteer coordination.
  • Familiarity with the social services landscape and community resources available in Missoula.
  • Bilingual proficiency (e.g., Spanish or another language relevant to Missoula's diverse population).
