Job Description

Mercy Health is offering a rewarding opportunity for a Counseling & Therapy Intern to join our behavioral health team for a supervised practicum experience. This role is designed for graduate students seeking to fulfill supervised clinical hours required for licensure in counseling or a related mental health field. The intern will gain hands-on experience in providing mental health services under the direct supervision of licensed professionals, contributing to our mission of providing compassionate care in the Cincinnati area. This is a hybrid position, balancing on-site client interactions and team meetings with potential for some remote administrative work.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct initial client assessments and develop individualized treatment plans under supervision.
  • Provide individual and group counseling sessions utilizing evidence-based therapeutic techniques.
  • Maintain accurate and timely client records, progress notes, and other documentation.
  • Participate in regular individual and group supervision sessions to review cases, discuss ethical considerations, and enhance clinical skills.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to ensure comprehensive and coordinated client care.
  • Attend staff meetings, case conferences, and professional development seminars.
  • Adhere to all ethical guidelines and legal requirements pertaining to counseling practice.
  • Assist with intake procedures, scheduling, and other administrative tasks as needed.

Required Skills

  • Enrollment in an accredited Master's or Doctoral program in Counseling, Social Work, or a related mental health field.
  • Demonstrated understanding of ethical guidelines and professional standards in counseling.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Empathy, compassion, and a non-judgmental approach to client care.
  • Basic knowledge of various therapeutic modalities and intervention strategies.
  • Proficiency in basic computer applications and electronic health record (EHR) systems.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience in a mental health setting (e.g., volunteer, observation, practicum).
  • Familiarity with cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), or other evidence-based practices.
  • Experience working with diverse populations and cultural competencies.
  • Bilingual proficiency, particularly in Spanish or other languages prevalent in the community.
