Job Description

Are you passionate about history, archaeology, and outdoor work? SWCA Environmental Consultants is seeking enthusiastic individuals for an entry-level Dig Site Assistant position. No prior experience is required – we provide comprehensive, paid training to equip you with the skills needed to succeed. This role offers an incredible opportunity to contribute to significant archaeological projects, learn valuable field techniques, and start a career in cultural resource management. You will work closely with experienced archaeologists, assisting with excavation, documentation, and data collection on various project sites predominantly within the Round Rock and greater Central Texas area.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist archaeologists with systematic excavation and recovery of archaeological materials.
  • Screen excavated soil to identify and recover artifacts.
  • Maintain detailed field notes and complete standardized forms accurately.
  • Carefully bag, label, and document recovered artifacts.
  • Operate and maintain various field equipment.
  • Adhere strictly to all safety protocols and site-specific instructions.
  • Assist with site mapping, photography, and data entry as directed.
  • Participate in site setup, breakdown, and general logistics.

Required Skills

  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and terrains.
  • Physical stamina to perform repetitive tasks, lift up to 30 lbs, and walk long distances.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow precise instructions.
  • Eagerness to learn archaeological field methods and techniques.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Reliable transportation to and from project sites.

Preferred Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Interest in archaeology, history, or cultural resource management.
  • Prior experience with outdoor labor or manual work.
  • Basic computer skills (data entry).
