Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Drilling Fluids Engineer (Mud Engineer) to join our dynamic team in Stockton-on-Tees. This role is crucial for optimizing drilling operations by designing, implementing, and managing drilling fluid systems. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring fluid performance, mitigating drilling challenges, and maintaining environmental compliance. Key Responsibilities

  • Design and optimize drilling fluid programs tailored to specific well conditions and geological formations.
  • Monitor and maintain drilling fluid properties, ensuring optimal performance, contamination control, and cost efficiency.
  • Conduct regular lab testing of drilling fluids to analyze chemical and physical characteristics.
  • Troubleshoot drilling fluid-related issues such as lost circulation, wellbore instability, and differential sticking.
  • Provide technical support and recommendations to drilling rig personnel and clients.
  • Prepare daily and weekly reports on fluid performance, inventory, and cost analysis.
  • Ensure strict adherence to safety and environmental regulations and company policies.
  • Manage drilling fluid inventory, logistics, and waste management on site.
  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams including geologists, drillers, and reservoir engineers.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, or a related science discipline.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Drilling Fluids Engineer or Mud Engineer.
  • Strong understanding of drilling fluid chemistry, rheology, and hydraulics.
  • Proficiency in drilling fluid testing equipment and procedures.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in challenging and remote field environments.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Valid driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in a relevant engineering or science field.
  • Experience with advanced drilling fluid systems (e.g., synthetic-based muds, high-performance water-based muds).
  • Certification in well control (e.g., IADC WellSHARP, IWCF).
  • Prior experience working with a global oilfield services company.
  • Multilingual abilities, particularly in languages relevant to global operations.
