Job Description

Are you a passionate and driven student with a keen interest in fluid dynamics and computational fluid dynamics (CFD)? BAE Systems is offering an exciting internship opportunity for a Fluid Dynamics & CFD Intern to join our innovative Aerospace team. This role provides an invaluable chance to apply theoretical knowledge to real-world aerospace challenges, contributing to advanced projects under the guidance of industry experts. You will gain hands-on experience with state-of-the-art CFD software, data analysis, and simulation techniques crucial for modern aerospace engineering.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist senior engineers in setting up and running CFD simulations for various aerospace components and systems.
  • Analyze simulation results, interpret data, and prepare detailed reports and presentations.
  • Contribute to the development and validation of CFD models and methodologies.
  • Participate in team meetings, brainstorming sessions, and project discussions.
  • Conduct literature reviews and research on advanced fluid dynamics topics relevant to ongoing projects.
  • Document findings, procedures, and code in a clear and concise manner.
  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary engineering teams to ensure project success.

Required Skills

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field with a strong focus on fluid dynamics.
  • Solid understanding of fundamental fluid mechanics principles (incompressible/compressible flow, boundary layers, turbulence).
  • Familiarity with at least one commercial or open-source CFD software package (e.g., Ansys Fluent, STAR-CCM+, OpenFOAM).
  • Proficiency in data analysis tools such as MATLAB, Python (NumPy, SciPy, Matplotlib), or similar.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, CATIA, Creo).
  • Prior academic project work or research experience in CFD or experimental fluid dynamics.
  • Knowledge of aerodynamic principles and aerospace vehicle design.
  • Experience with high-performance computing (HPC) environments.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
