Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and safety-focused Hazmat/Tanker Specialist to join our team in Vacaville, CA. This critical role is responsible for the safe and compliant transportation of hazardous materials and bulk liquids in tanker trucks. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of DOT regulations, HAZMAT protocols, and a commitment to maintaining the highest standards of safety and operational efficiency within chemical logistics. You will play a vital role in ensuring the integrity and timely delivery of sensitive chemical products.

Key Responsibilities

  • Safely operate tanker trucks to transport hazardous materials and bulk chemical liquids in compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations (DOT, EPA, OSHA).
  • Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of vehicles and equipment, ensuring all safety features are operational and tanker integrity is maintained.
  • Verify shipping documents, labels, and placards for accuracy and compliance with HAZMAT regulations.
  • Load and unload bulk liquids using appropriate safety procedures and equipment, ensuring product containment and preventing spills.
  • Respond effectively to potential spills, leaks, or other emergencies according to established protocols and company training.
  • Maintain accurate logs, records, and reports, including Hours of Service (HOS) and incident reports.
  • Communicate effectively with dispatch, customers, and other team members regarding schedules, deliveries, and potential issues.
  • Adhere to all company safety policies and procedures, actively participating in safety meetings and training.
  • Perform minor maintenance tasks as needed and report any mechanical issues promptly.

Required Skills

  • Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with Tanker and HAZMAT endorsements
  • Minimum of 3 years of verifiable commercial driving experience, with at least 1 year in tanker/HAZMAT transport
  • Clean driving record (MVR)
  • Thorough knowledge of DOT, EPA, and OSHA regulations pertaining to hazardous materials transportation
  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including climbing, bending, and lifting
  • Strong commitment to safety and compliance
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with specific chemical types or industrial gases
  • Forklift certification or experience with other material handling equipment
  • Familiarity with electronic logging devices (ELDs) and transportation management systems (TMS)
  • Advanced defensive driving training or certifications
