Job Description
Are you a high school student with a passion for working with children and a love for the outdoors? The YMCA of Pasco County is seeking enthusiastic and dedicated High School Camp Counselor Trainees to join our summer camp team in New Port Richey. This entry-level position is perfect for individuals looking to gain valuable experience in youth leadership, recreation, and child development. You will work alongside experienced counselors, learn essential skills, and contribute to creating a safe, fun, and memorable summer for our campers. This is a fantastic opportunity to develop leadership qualities, build your resume, and make a positive impact on young lives.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist senior counselors in supervising camp activities and ensuring the safety of all campers.
- Engage campers in a variety of outdoor games, crafts, and educational activities.
- Help maintain a positive, inclusive, and energetic camp environment.
- Support the implementation of daily schedules and camp routines.
- Learn and apply YMCA safety protocols and emergency procedures.
- Participate in staff training sessions and team meetings.
- Serve as a positive role model for campers, demonstrating enthusiasm and sportsmanship.
- Communicate effectively with campers, parents, and fellow staff members.
- Help set up and clean up activity areas and camp facilities.
Required Skills
- Currently enrolled in high school or recently graduated.
- Genuine interest in working with children and fostering their growth.
- Enthusiastic, energetic, and positive attitude.
- Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Reliability and punctuality.
- Ability to thrive in an outdoor environment and participate in physical activities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience as a volunteer or assistant with children (e.g., babysitting, junior coach, youth group).
- Basic knowledge of first aid or willingness to get certified.
- Participation in school clubs or leadership programs.
- Interest in recreation, sports, or outdoor education.
