Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Junior GIS Technician to join our dynamic team in Kansas City, MO. This entry-level position is ideal for individuals passionate about geographic information systems and eager to apply their skills in the energy sector. You will play a crucial role in maintaining and updating our extensive geospatial data, supporting critical energy infrastructure projects, and contributing to efficient decision-making processes. Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain and update existing GIS databases with new energy infrastructure data.
  • Perform data entry, digitization, and georeferencing of various spatial datasets.
  • Create and produce maps, reports, and other geospatial deliverables as requested.
  • Assist in the collection and processing of field data using GPS and other mobile mapping tools.
  • Ensure data accuracy, completeness, and adherence to company standards and protocols.
  • Collaborate with engineers, project managers, and other departments to support various energy projects.
  • Identify and resolve data discrepancies and quality issues.

Required Skills

  • Proficiency in ArcGIS Desktop/Pro or similar GIS software.
  • Basic understanding of GIS principles, mapping, and spatial analysis.
  • Strong attention to detail and data accuracy.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical maps, blueprints, and engineering drawings.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Bachelor's degree in Geography, GIS, Geomatics, Environmental Science, or a related field, OR relevant vocational training/certification.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Internship or project experience in the utility or energy sector.
  • Familiarity with CAD software (AutoCAD, MicroStation).
  • Experience with Python scripting for GIS automation.
  • Knowledge of energy transmission and distribution systems.
  • Basic understanding of database management (e.g., SQL).
