Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Junior GIS Technician to join our dynamic team in Kansas City, MO. You will play a crucial role in maintaining and updating our extensive geospatial data, supporting critical energy infrastructure projects, and contributing to efficient decision-making processes. Key Responsibilities
- Maintain and update existing GIS databases with new energy infrastructure data.
- Perform data entry, digitization, and georeferencing of various spatial datasets.
- Create and produce maps, reports, and other geospatial deliverables as requested.
- Assist in the collection and processing of field data using GPS and other mobile mapping tools.
- Ensure data accuracy, completeness, and adherence to company standards and protocols.
- Collaborate with engineers, project managers, and other departments to support various energy projects.
- Identify and resolve data discrepancies and quality issues.
Required Skills
- Proficiency in ArcGIS Desktop/Pro or similar GIS software.
- Basic understanding of GIS principles, mapping, and spatial analysis.
- Strong attention to detail and data accuracy.
- Ability to read and interpret technical maps, blueprints, and engineering drawings.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
- Bachelor's degree in Geography, GIS, Geomatics, Environmental Science, or a related field, OR relevant vocational training/certification.
Preferred Qualifications
- Internship or project experience in the utility or energy sector.
- Familiarity with CAD software (AutoCAD, MicroStation).
- Experience with Python scripting for GIS automation.
- Knowledge of energy transmission and distribution systems.
- Basic understanding of database management (e.g., SQL).
