Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Lab Systems Specialist with a unique blend of IT and chemistry expertise to join our innovative team in Tucson, Arizona. This role is pivotal in managing and optimizing our Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) and other critical lab systems, ensuring seamless operation, data integrity, and compliance. You will serve as the crucial link between our scientific laboratory teams and our IT infrastructure, driving efficiency and supporting our mission to make the world healthier, cleaner, and safer. Key Responsibilities
- Administer, configure, and troubleshoot LIMS (e.g., SampleManager, LabWare, STARLIMS) and other laboratory software systems.
- Provide technical support and training to laboratory personnel on system usage, best practices, and issue resolution.
- Collaborate with chemists, biologists, and other scientists to gather requirements for system enhancements and new functionality.
- Develop and maintain system documentation, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and training materials.
- Perform system validation, qualification, and periodic reviews in compliance with regulatory guidelines (e.g., GLP, GMP).
- Participate in system upgrades, patches, and data migration activities.
- Ensure data integrity, security, and traceability within all managed lab systems.
- Identify opportunities for process improvement and automation within laboratory workflows.
- Work closely with the IT department on infrastructure, network, and security aspects related to lab systems.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related scientific/technical field.
- 3+ years of experience working with Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS).
- Strong understanding of chemical principles, laboratory workflows, and analytical instrumentation.
- Proficiency in database management (SQL preferred) and data analysis.
- Experience with system administration, configuration, and troubleshooting in a laboratory environment.
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
- Ability to bridge the gap between scientific users and IT technical teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in a relevant field.
- Experience with specific LIMS platforms (e.g., Thermo Scientific SampleManager LIMS, LabWare LIMS).
- Knowledge of GxP regulations (GLP, GMP) and data integrity requirements.
- Experience with other lab systems such as CDS, ELN, SDMS.
- Programming or scripting experience (e.g., Python, C#).
- Certifications in LIMS administration or IT service management (ITIL).
