Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Lab Systems Specialist with a unique blend of IT and chemistry expertise to join our team in New Orleans, LA. This is an exciting career path opportunity for an individual passionate about optimizing laboratory operations through robust information management systems. The successful candidate will be instrumental in supporting, maintaining, and enhancing our Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS), ensuring data integrity, system efficiency, and compliance with industry standards. This role bridges the gap between our scientific and IT departments, requiring a keen understanding of both laboratory workflows and system administration.
Key Responsibilities
- Administer, configure, and maintain LIMS (e.g., SampleManager, LabWare) to meet specific laboratory needs.
- Provide technical support and troubleshooting for LIMS users, resolving issues related to system access, data entry, and report generation.
- Collaborate with laboratory personnel to understand their workflows and translate scientific requirements into LIMS functionalities.
- Assist in the design, development, and implementation of new LIMS modules, enhancements, and integrations with other lab instruments/systems.
- Ensure compliance with data integrity principles, regulatory requirements (e.g., GLP, GMP), and internal SOPs.
- Develop and deliver training materials and sessions for new and existing LIMS users.
- Perform system validation activities, including authoring and executing test scripts.
- Maintain comprehensive documentation of LIMS configurations, support procedures, and user guides.
- Participate in system upgrades, patches, and security reviews.
- Act as a liaison between laboratory end-users and the IT department for complex system issues and new feature requests.
Required Skills
- 2+ years of experience working with Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS).
- Strong understanding of laboratory processes and data management principles within a scientific environment.
- Proficiency in SQL for data querying and basic database administration.
- Experience providing technical support and troubleshooting IT systems.
- Familiarity with regulatory requirements such as GLP or GMP.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with both technical and non-technical staff.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a cross-functional team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related scientific field.
- Experience with specific LIMS platforms like SampleManager LIMS, LabWare LIMS, or STARLIMS.
- Knowledge of laboratory instrumentation interfaces and data acquisition.
- Experience in a pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or chemical manufacturing environment.
- LIMS certification or relevant IT certifications.
- Project management experience for system implementation or upgrade projects.
