Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and meticulous National Statistics Data Collector to join our team in Coventry. This hybrid role involves both field-based data collection and office-based data processing and administration. You will be instrumental in gathering accurate and timely data for various national surveys and statistical projects, contributing directly to the UK’s official statistics. This role requires excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to data integrity. You will interact with members of the public, businesses, and other organizations to collect essential information, ensuring confidentiality and adherence to ONS guidelines.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct face-to-face, telephone, or online interviews with individuals and businesses to collect survey data.
  • Travel to various locations within the assigned geographic area for field data collection.
  • Verify collected data for accuracy, completeness, and consistency, resolving discrepancies as needed.
  • Input, process, and manage collected data using ONS-specific software and systems in an office environment.
  • Adhere strictly to data protection, confidentiality, and ethical guidelines.
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with respondents, explaining the purpose of data collection and addressing any concerns.
  • Maintain accurate records of all data collection activities and progress.
  • Participate in training sessions to stay updated on survey methodologies and data collection techniques.
  • Collaborate with team members and supervisors to ensure project targets are met.

Required Skills

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage diverse groups.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail for accurate data recording.
  • Proficiency in basic computer applications (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite).
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively, especially during field assignments.
  • A valid UK driving license and access to a reliable vehicle (or ability to travel efficiently via public transport).
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to data protection regulations.
  • Flexibility to work varied hours, including some evenings or weekends, as required by survey schedules.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in data collection, market research, or survey interviewing.
  • Familiarity with statistical concepts or survey methodologies.
  • Experience using tablets or other mobile devices for data collection.
  • Knowledge of the local Coventry and surrounding West Midlands area.
