Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Nuclear Pharmacy Technician with a specialized science focus to join our dedicated team in Santa Ana, CA. This crucial role involves preparing and dispensing radiopharmaceuticals, performing quality control, and ensuring compliance with all regulatory standards. The ideal candidate will possess a strong scientific background, exceptional aseptic technique, and a commitment to patient safety and quality. You will work in a fast-paced, highly regulated environment, contributing directly to the accurate and timely delivery of life-saving diagnostic and therapeutic agents.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare, compound, and dispense radiopharmaceuticals according to prescription orders, standard operating procedures, and strict aseptic techniques.
- Perform quality control procedures on radiopharmaceuticals and related equipment, ensuring accuracy and integrity of all products.
- Handle and package radioactive materials in compliance with NRC, DOT, and state regulations.
- Maintain accurate inventory records of radiopharmaceuticals and related supplies.
- Operate and maintain specialized pharmacy equipment, including dose calibrators and laminar flow hoods.
- Assist pharmacists in all aspects of nuclear pharmacy operations, including order entry, labeling, and shipping.
- Adhere to all local, state, and federal regulations, as well as company policies and procedures related to radiation safety and sterile compounding.
- Participate in facility cleaning and environmental monitoring to maintain a sterile compounding environment.
- Provide exceptional customer service and support to clients and healthcare professionals.
- Participate in ongoing training and professional development to maintain current knowledge of nuclear pharmacy practices and regulations.
Required Skills
- High School Diploma or GED
- Active Pharmacy Technician license/certification in California (CPhT preferred)
- Minimum 2 years of experience as a Pharmacy Technician, preferably in a hospital, compounding, or nuclear pharmacy setting
- Strong background in scientific principles (e.g., chemistry, biology, physics)
- Proficiency in aseptic technique and sterile compounding procedures
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, highly regulated environment
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Basic computer proficiency and ability to learn specialized software
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in a science-related field
- Experience with radioactive materials handling and radiation safety protocols
- Certification in Nuclear Pharmacy Technology (CNPT) or equivalent
- Knowledge of NRC and DOT regulations pertaining to radiopharmaceuticals
