Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and patient-focused Outpatient Meds-to-Beds Technician to join our pharmacy team in Tempe, Arizona. This crucial role involves direct interaction with patients, ensuring a seamless transition from hospital discharge to home by delivering prescribed medications directly to the patient’s bedside prior to their departure. You will play a vital role in patient education regarding their new medications, ensuring they understand dosage, potential side effects, and proper administration. Key Responsibilities

  • Facilitate the 'Meds-to-Beds' program by delivering discharge medications directly to patients prior to their departure from the facility.
  • Educate patients on their prescribed medications, including dosage, frequency, potential side effects, and proper storage.
  • Verify patient identity and medication accuracy with the patient and/or their caregiver.
  • Process payments for medications and manage point-of-sale transactions.
  • Liaise with pharmacists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated patient care.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of medication delivery and patient interactions.
  • Adhere to all regulatory guidelines, hospital policies, and pharmacy procedures.
  • Provide exceptional customer service and resolve patient inquiries or concerns in a compassionate manner.
  • Assist with inventory management and maintaining a clean, organized work environment.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance the Meds-to-Beds program.

Required Skills

  • Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) certification from PTCB or NHA.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience as a Pharmacy Technician, preferably in an outpatient or retail setting.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a proven ability to interact effectively with patients and healthcare providers.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in medication handling and dispensing.
  • Proficiency in pharmacy software and point-of-sale systems.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated empathy and a patient-first approach.
  • Knowledge of medication names, dosages, and common side effects.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA regulations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate's degree or higher in a related field.
  • Experience with hospital discharge processes and patient education.
  • Bilingual skills (especially Spanish) are a plus.
