Job Description

We are looking for a highly accurate and detail-oriented Paleontology Archive Clerk to join our team. In this critical role, you will be responsible for the precise data entry, organization, and maintenance of our extensive paleontological records, both physical and digital. Your work will directly support scientific research and the long-term preservation of invaluable fossil data. This position requires exceptional attention to detail, a methodical approach, and a strong commitment to data integrity within a scientific archival setting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform high-accuracy data entry from physical paleontological specimens, field notes, and other source documents into digital databases.
  • Verify and cross-reference existing data for accuracy and completeness, correcting discrepancies as needed.
  • Organize, label, and archive physical paleontological records, including specimen catalogs, photographs, and research papers, ensuring proper preservation standards.
  • Assist with scanning and digitizing historical documents and images related to paleontological collections.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality and adherence to data security protocols.
  • Collaborate with curators and researchers to clarify information and ensure data consistency.
  • Generate reports and assist in data retrieval as required for research projects.
  • Contribute to the ongoing development and improvement of archival processes and database management.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience with high-accuracy data entry, demonstrating exceptional attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook) and database management systems.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to handle and process sensitive and confidential information with discretion.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Library Science, Archival Studies, Earth Sciences, Biology, or a related field.
  • Familiarity with paleontological terminology or scientific data.
  • Experience working in a museum, archive, library, or research institution setting.
  • Knowledge of digital archiving principles and metadata standards.
