Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Patient Service Assistant to join our ward-based team at Trillium Health Partners. In this vital role, you will be the first point of contact for patients and visitors, providing essential administrative and clerical support to ensure the smooth operation of our medical wards. You will work closely with nurses, doctors, and other healthcare professionals to maintain an organized and efficient environment, directly contributing to a positive patient experience. This position requires strong organizational skills, excellent communication abilities, and a commitment to patient-centered care within a dynamic hospital setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Greet and direct patients, visitors, and staff with professionalism and empathy.
- Manage patient admissions, transfers, and discharges, ensuring accurate documentation and communication.
- Answer telephones, respond to inquiries, and relay messages efficiently.
- Maintain patient charts, electronic health records, and other confidential documents.
- Schedule appointments, tests, and procedures as required.
- Order and maintain office supplies and ward-specific materials.
- Assist with basic data entry and administrative tasks to support ward operations.
- Collaborate with nursing and medical staff to facilitate patient flow and care coordination.
- Ensure the waiting areas and administrative spaces are tidy and welcoming.
Required Skills
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum 1 year of experience in a customer service or administrative role, preferably in a healthcare environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational and multitasking abilities with attention to detail.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and demanding environment.
- Demonstrated empathy, compassion, and a patient-centered approach.
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of patient information.
Preferred Qualifications
- Post-secondary education in Office Administration, Medical Office Administration, or a related field.
- Experience with hospital information systems (e.g., EPIC, Meditech).
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
- First Aid and CPR certification.
