Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Prior Authorization Specialist to join our remote team. In this 100% remote role, you will play a critical part in ensuring patients receive necessary medications and treatments by managing the prior authorization process efficiently and accurately. You will review medical records, communicate with healthcare providers, and interact with insurance companies to obtain approvals for prescribed medications. This position requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to patient care, all from the comfort of your home office.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review and process prior authorization requests for prescription medications in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Communicate effectively with prescribers, pharmacies, and insurance companies to gather necessary information and facilitate authorization approvals.
  • Interpret and apply medical policy criteria to prior authorization requests.
  • Document all communications and actions taken within the designated system, ensuring thorough and accurate record-keeping.
  • Identify and escalate complex cases or potential issues to appropriate clinical or supervisory staff.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all patient and proprietary information.
  • Stay current with changes in medication policies, insurance requirements, and clinical guidelines.
  • Collaborate with team members to optimize workflow and achieve departmental goals.
  • Adhere to all regulatory compliance standards and company policies.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 1 year experience in a pharmacy, medical office, or managed care setting, specifically with prior authorizations or claims processing.
  • Proficiency in medical terminology, prescription drug names, and therapeutic classes.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently in a remote environment and manage time effectively.
  • Proficient with computer systems, including Microsoft Office Suite and various healthcare software applications.
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) certification.
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in a related field.
  • Experience with specific Electronic Medical Record (EMR) or Pharmacy Benefits Management (PBM) systems.
  • Knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial insurance plans.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish or other relevant language).
