Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Psychiatric Nurse (RN) to join our esteemed mental health facility in New Port Richey, FL. This full-time position offers a stable income and the opportunity to make a profound difference in the lives of patients experiencing various mental health conditions. The ideal candidate will possess strong clinical skills, a deep understanding of psychiatric nursing principles, and a commitment to patient-centered care. You will work within a multidisciplinary team to provide direct patient care, administer medications, conduct assessments, and contribute to individualized treatment plans.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive psychiatric assessments of patients, including mental status exams and risk assessments.
- Administer and monitor psychotropic medications, documenting effects and adverse reactions.
- Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized patient care plans in collaboration with the healthcare team.
- Provide therapeutic communication and interventions, including crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques.
- Educate patients and their families about mental health conditions, treatment options, and coping strategies.
- Maintain accurate and thorough patient records in compliance with facility policies and regulatory standards.
- Participate in group therapy sessions and provide individual counseling as appropriate.
- Ensure a safe and therapeutic environment for all patients and staff.
- Collaborate with psychiatrists, social workers, therapists, and other healthcare professionals.
- Adhere to all ethical and professional nursing standards.
Required Skills
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Florida
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Strong knowledge of psychiatric disorders and treatment modalities
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and challenging environment
- Proficiency in electronic health records (EHR) systems
- Critical thinking and problem-solving abilities
- Empathy and compassion for individuals with mental health conditions
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
- Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse (PMH-RN) certification
- Experience in an inpatient psychiatric setting
- Experience with diverse patient populations
