Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Refinery Technician to join our team at the Pasadena refinery, located along the Houston Ship Channel. This is an immediate hire opportunity for individuals ready to contribute to the safe and efficient operation of our facilities. As a Refinery Technician, you will play a critical role in monitoring, operating, and maintaining complex refining equipment to ensure optimal production levels and adherence to stringent safety and environmental regulations. This role requires a strong understanding of process operations, mechanical aptitude, and a commitment to Valero’s core values.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor refinery processes and equipment using distributed control systems (DCS) and field observations.
  • Operate and adjust valves, pumps, compressors, furnaces, and other processing units as needed.
  • Perform routine equipment checks, basic maintenance, and troubleshoot operational issues.
  • Conduct quality control tests and sample collection to ensure product specifications are met.
  • Adhere strictly to all safety protocols, procedures, and environmental regulations.
  • Respond to alarms, deviations, and emergencies, taking appropriate corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with engineers, maintenance, and other operations personnel.
  • Maintain accurate logs, records, and reports of operational activities.
  • Participate in safety meetings, training, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Required Skills

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a refinery, chemical plant, or heavy industrial environment
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting P&IDs, flow diagrams, and operating manuals
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety and environmental compliance
  • Ability to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Physical ability to climb stairs, ladders, lift up to 50 lbs, and work in various weather conditions

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate's degree or technical certification in Process Technology, Chemical Operations, or related field
  • Experience with Distributed Control Systems (DCS) or similar process control software
  • Knowledge of refinery processes such as crude distillation, catalytic cracking, and hydrotreating
  • Valid state driver's license
