Job Description
Join Rogers Communications as a Sociolinguistics & Dialectology Research Intern and contribute to innovative projects exploring language variation and change within diverse Canadian communities. This internship offers a unique opportunity to apply theoretical sociolinguistic principles to real-world data, gaining hands-on experience in data collection, analysis, and report generation. You will work alongside experienced researchers, contributing to studies that inform our understanding of communication patterns, cultural nuances, and technological interactions across various demographic groups. Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the design and execution of sociolinguistic and dialectological research studies.
- Collect, transcribe, and analyze qualitative and quantitative linguistic data (e.g., interviews, surveys, recorded speech).
- Contribute to the development of research instruments and protocols.
- Perform literature reviews to support research initiatives.
- Prepare and present research findings, including reports and presentations, for internal stakeholders.
- Maintain accurate and organized research documentation and databases.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams on projects related to communication, user experience, and AI language models.
Required Skills
- Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's, Master's, or Ph.D. program in Linguistics, Sociolinguistics, Anthropology, Communication Studies, or a related field.
- Strong foundational knowledge of sociolinguistics, dialectology, and linguistic theory.
- Familiarity with qualitative and quantitative research methodologies.
- Proficiency in data analysis software (e.g., R, Python for text analysis, or qualitative analysis tools).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- High level of attention to detail and organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience with linguistic fieldwork or data collection.
- Experience with statistical analysis for linguistic data.
- Familiarity with Canadian English dialects or multilingualism in Canada.
- Proficiency in additional languages relevant to Canadian demographics.
