Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate UPS Chiropody Assistant with a strong focus on elderly care to join our Podiatry team in Inglewood. In this vital role, you will work closely with our chiropodists and podiatrists, providing essential support in the assessment and treatment of foot and lower limb conditions, with a particular emphasis on the unique needs of our senior patients. Your contributions will directly enhance patient comfort, safety, and the efficiency of our clinic operations, ensuring our elderly patients receive the specialized care they deserve.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist chiropodists/podiatrists during patient examinations and procedures, including nail care, debridement, and wound dressings.
  • Prepare treatment rooms, ensuring all instruments, equipment, and supplies are ready and sterile according to established protocols.
  • Sterilize instruments and maintain equipment following infection control guidelines.
  • Perform patient intake, including gathering medical history, vital signs, and documenting patient concerns relevant to foot health.
  • Provide basic patient education on foot hygiene, proper footwear, and post-procedure care, especially for elderly patients.
  • Assist with minor administrative tasks such as scheduling appointments, managing patient records, and handling billing inquiries.
  • Maintain inventory of supplies and order new stock as needed to ensure smooth clinic operations.
  • Ensure patient comfort and safety throughout their visit, providing compassionate support and clear communication.
  • Support the implementation of care plans tailored for elderly patients, considering age-related health conditions and mobility challenges.

Required Skills

  • Proficiency in medical terminology, particularly related to podiatry and geriatrics.
  • Demonstrated ability in basic wound care and sterile technique.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a patient-centered approach.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Empathy and patience, especially when working with elderly and vulnerable patients.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced clinical environment.
  • Basic computer skills for electronic health records (EHR) and scheduling systems.
  • Understanding of infection control and safety protocols.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or equivalent certification.
  • Previous experience working in a podiatry, geriatrics, or general medical clinic.
  • Familiarity with Kaiser Permanente's health systems and practices.
  • Knowledge of common foot conditions affecting the elderly, such as diabetic foot care, neuropathy, and circulatory issues.
