Job Description

We are seeking a diligent and meticulous Virtual Tax Return Reviewer to join our public sector team. This is a 100% remote position, offering the flexibility to work from home while contributing to vital public services. As a Virtual Tax Return Reviewer, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the accuracy and compliance of tax returns submitted by individuals and businesses. You will utilize your keen eye for detail and knowledge of tax regulations to identify discrepancies, ensure correct calculations, and maintain the integrity of our tax system. Key Responsibilities

• Review a high volume of tax returns (e.g., Self Assessment, Corporation Tax) for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with current UK tax legislation and policies.
• Identify potential errors, discrepancies, or fraudulent activities within submitted tax returns.
• Perform detailed data analysis and cross-referencing using internal systems and external data sources.
• Communicate findings clearly and concisely, both written and verbally, to internal stakeholders and potentially taxpayers.
• Process corrections, adjustments, and necessary follow-up actions in accordance with established procedures.
• Stay updated with changes in tax law, regulations, and HMRC guidelines to ensure accurate review practices.
• Maintain strict confidentiality and adhere to data protection regulations at all times.
• Collaborate with other virtual teams and departments to resolve complex tax queries or investigations.

Required Skills

• Proven experience in tax preparation or tax review.
• Strong understanding of UK tax legislation (e.g., Income Tax, National Insurance, Corporation Tax, VAT).
• Exceptional attention to detail and analytical skills.
• Proficiency in using tax software and Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel).
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and manage a workload effectively in a remote setting.
• High level of integrity and ethical conduct.

Preferred Qualifications

• Relevant professional qualification (e.g., ATT, CTA, AAT, ACCA, ACA).
• Experience working within a public sector or government environment.
• Familiarity with HMRC's internal systems and processes.
• Degree in Accounting, Finance, Law, or a related field.
