Job Description

Jacobs is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Environmental Chemist with a strong focus on soil and water remediation to join our dynamic team in Buffalo, NY. In this role, you will play a crucial part in designing, implementing, and overseeing remediation projects aimed at restoring contaminated sites. You will be responsible for conducting field investigations, laboratory analysis interpretation, data evaluation, and contributing to the development of remediation strategies. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work on diverse projects that directly impact environmental health and safety, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams of engineers, geologists, and project managers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive site assessments and investigations to characterize soil and groundwater contamination.
  • Develop and implement sampling plans for various environmental media (soil, water, air, sediment).
  • Interpret complex analytical data from environmental samples and provide expert chemical evaluations.
  • Design, optimize, and oversee the implementation of soil and groundwater remediation systems and technologies (e.g., in-situ chemical oxidation, pump-and-treat, bioremediation).
  • Prepare detailed technical reports, work plans, and regulatory compliance documents.
  • Ensure project compliance with federal, state, and local environmental regulations (e.g., CERCLA, RCRA, Clean Water Act).
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and other specialists to develop integrated remediation strategies.
  • Manage data, maintain databases, and perform statistical analysis to track remediation progress.
  • Provide technical support during client meetings and regulatory agency interactions.
  • Adhere to strict health and safety protocols on all field and office activities.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Environmental Chemistry, Chemistry, Geochemistry, Environmental Engineering, or a closely related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of professional experience in environmental consulting or remediation, with a focus on soil and groundwater chemistry.
  • Demonstrated experience with various remediation technologies and their application.
  • Strong understanding of contaminant transport, fate, and geochemical processes in environmental systems.
  • Proficiency in interpreting analytical laboratory reports for a wide range of organic and inorganic contaminants.
  • Excellent technical writing and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel to field sites as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional Engineer (PE) or Professional Geologist (PG) license, or ability to obtain one.
  • OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER certification.
  • Experience with groundwater modeling software (e.g., MODFLOW, MT3DMS).
  • Familiarity with GIS software for data visualization and analysis.
  • Project management experience on environmental remediation projects.
