Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Correctional Facility Pharmacy Technician to join our team in a secure setting. This critical role involves working within a correctional facility environment, providing essential pharmaceutical support to ensure the safe and effective delivery of medications to patients. The ideal candidate will thrive in a structured setting, possess excellent organizational skills, and maintain a high level of professionalism and discretion. You will play a vital role in patient care, contributing to the health and well-being of individuals within the correctional system while adhering to strict security protocols and pharmacy regulations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare, package, and label medications under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist, ensuring accuracy and compliance with all safety protocols.
  • Maintain accurate medication inventory, including ordering, receiving, stocking, and rotating supplies.
  • Process prescription orders, verify patient information, and manage medication dispensing records.
  • Conduct daily medication counts and reconcile discrepancies in a secure environment.
  • Assist pharmacists with medication reconciliation and patient profile maintenance.
  • Adhere to strict security procedures and protocols within the correctional facility.
  • Ensure proper storage and disposal of medications, including controlled substances.
  • Communicate effectively with pharmacists, nurses, and correctional staff regarding medication-related issues.
  • Participate in quality assurance activities and contribute to process improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area, adhering to all sanitation and safety guidelines.

Required Skills

  • Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) through PTCB or NHA
  • Active State of Ohio Pharmacy Technician license in good standing
  • Minimum 1 year of experience as a Pharmacy Technician, preferably in an institutional or retail setting
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in medication preparation and dispensing
  • Ability to work effectively in a secure and structured environment
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proficiency in pharmacy software systems and basic computer applications
  • Knowledge of pharmaceutical terminology, generic/brand names, and calculations
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in a correctional, hospital, or long-term care pharmacy setting
  • Familiarity with state and federal regulations pertaining to correctional pharmacy operations
  • Associate's degree in a related field
