Job Description

First Student is seeking compassionate and vigilant School Bus Monitors/Aides to join our team in Austin, TX. This is a crucial part-time role with split shifts, perfectly suited for individuals, especially parents, looking for a schedule that aligns with school hours. As a School Bus Monitor/Aide, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety and well-being of students during their bus rides to and from school. Your presence provides an extra layer of supervision, assists the bus driver, and helps maintain a positive and orderly environment on the bus. Key Responsibilities

  • Assist students with safe boarding and exiting of the school bus.
  • Ensure students are properly seated and secured according to safety guidelines.
  • Monitor student behavior on the bus, addressing issues promptly and calmly.
  • Communicate effectively with the bus driver regarding student needs and behavioral concerns.
  • Assist students with special needs, including wheelchair securement and personal care, as required.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly bus environment.
  • Report any incidents, accidents, or concerns to the appropriate supervisor.
  • Administer basic first aid when necessary and call for emergency services if required.
  • Ensure all students have disembarked the bus at the end of each route (child check).

  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with children, parents, and school staff.
  • Demonstrated patience, understanding, and empathy towards children.
  • Strong observational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to follow instructions and safety protocols.
  • Reliability and punctuality are essential.
  • Must pass a background check and drug screening.

Preferred Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Previous experience working with children in a supervisory or caregiving role.
  • Knowledge of basic first aid and CPR certification (or willingness to obtain).
