Job Description
We are seeking a diligent and reliable Part-Time Student Accommodation Maintenance Hand to support the upkeep of our student residences in the Gastown area of Vancouver. This role is ideal for individuals who are handy, detail-oriented, and enjoy contributing to a positive living environment. You will be responsible for completing a variety of small, routine maintenance tasks, ensuring student comfort and safety. This is an entry-level position perfect for someone looking to gain experience in property maintenance within a dynamic university setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform minor repairs such as fixing leaky faucets, changing light bulbs, and unblocking drains.
- Conduct routine checks of common areas and student rooms for maintenance needs.
- Assist with touch-up painting, patching walls, and other cosmetic repairs.
- Move furniture and equipment as required for room setup or cleaning.
- Report larger maintenance issues or damages to the Facilities Manager.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of maintenance tools and storage areas.
- Respond promptly and courteously to maintenance requests from students and staff.
- Ensure all work is carried out in compliance with safety regulations and university policies.
Required Skills
- Basic handyman skills and familiarity with common tools.
- Ability to follow instructions and work independently.
- Reliability and punctuality.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs, bend, stoop, and climb ladders.
- Problem-solving aptitude for minor repair issues.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a maintenance or handyman role, even informal.
- Knowledge of basic plumbing, electrical, or carpentry.
