Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Shopify Payments Specialist with a strong focus on Risk & Fraud to join our dynamic team in Gatineau. In this role, you will be crucial in safeguarding our payment ecosystem by identifying, investigating, and mitigating potential fraudulent activities and risks associated with transactions processed through Shopify Payments. You will work closely with merchants, internal teams, and payment partners to ensure a secure and compliant payment environment, contributing directly to the trust and integrity of the Shopify platform. This position requires a proactive approach, strong analytical skills, and a comprehensive understanding of e-commerce payment processes and fraud prevention best practices.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor and analyze payment transactions for suspicious patterns and potential fraud indicators using internal tools and external resources.
- Conduct in-depth investigations into chargebacks, unauthorized transactions, and other payment disputes, gathering evidence and making informed decisions.
- Implement and refine fraud prevention rules and strategies within the Shopify Payments system to minimize financial losses.
- Collaborate with merchants to provide guidance on best practices for fraud prevention and risk management.
- Communicate effectively with banks, payment processors, and law enforcement agencies during fraud investigations.
- Prepare detailed reports on fraud trends, incidents, and losses, providing insights and recommendations for process improvements.
- Stay updated on the latest fraud trends, payment regulations, and security threats in the e-commerce landscape.
- Assist in the development and documentation of risk management policies and procedures.
- Contribute to training materials and knowledge sharing for both internal teams and merchants.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in payment processing, risk management, or fraud prevention, preferably within an e-commerce environment.
- Strong understanding of credit card payment networks, regulations (e.g., PCI DSS), and chargeback processes.
- Proven ability to identify and investigate complex fraud patterns and make data-driven decisions.
- Familiarity with various fraud detection tools and technologies.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
- Proficiency in data analysis and reporting (e.g., Excel, SQL, or similar tools).
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Criminal Justice, or a related field.
- Experience with Shopify's platform and its payment processing features.
- Certification in fraud examination (e.g., CFE) or risk management.
- Fluency in French (verbal and written) due to location and client base.
- Experience working with machine learning-based fraud detection systems.
