Job Description

Heritage Law is seeking a motivated and dedicated Paralegal & Legal Studies Intern to join our dynamic team in Coquitlam. This internship offers a unique opportunity for students or recent graduates in paralegal studies or law to gain hands-on experience in a busy law firm environment. You will work closely with experienced lawyers and paralegals, contributing to real cases and learning the practical aspects of legal support. This is an excellent chance to apply your academic knowledge, develop essential professional skills, and explore a career in the legal field.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assisting lawyers and paralegals with case preparation, document review, and legal research.
  • Organizing and maintaining physical and electronic client files and case documents.
  • Drafting and proofreading legal correspondence, pleadings, and other legal documents under supervision.
  • Scheduling appointments, managing calendars, and coordinating meetings.
  • Assisting with client intake processes and maintaining client confidentiality.
  • Performing administrative tasks as required to support the legal team.
  • Attending client meetings, court proceedings, or mediations when appropriate and permitted.

Required Skills

  • Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a recognized Paralegal program, Legal Studies program, or a related field.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • High level of professionalism and discretion.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior office or administrative experience, especially in a professional setting.
  • Familiarity with legal research tools (e.g., Westlaw, LexisNexis).
  • Basic understanding of Canadian legal procedures and terminology.
  • A genuine interest in specific areas of law practiced by the firm (e.g., family law, real estate, corporate law).
